Senior Ensemble Show
My final theatre capstone class brought together 10 Theatre and Dance seniors to create a show from scratch. Along with character work and acting in the play, I also used the class as an opportunity to brush up on my welding skills, fabricating an 8ft long, 3ft wide “table” set piece from scratch. The modular steel set piece could be fastened quickly together using bolts and cotter pins, or used in its component parts as abstract pieces of scenery. Facing each other, they evoke a parent/child relationship (appropriate for a play about family). Stood on end, actors climbed the steel frame to reach for a prop and gain verticality over the other actors. I also designed the lights for the show, hanging and focusing as an army of one to convert the space into a round stage.
